Saw an article in the Seattle Times on the most popular baby names for last year.   National story from the Social Security Administration, with the predictable local spin.  Probably repeated hundreds of times across all the states.

I hope they don’t repeat this:

Nationally, Emma and Jacob were the most popular baby names in Washington.

And then they proceed to give Olivia and Ethan as the most popular names in the state.

Severe disconnect alert, people!  “Nationally” and “in Washington” are confusing at best, conflicting at a minimum, and guaranteed to end up with a bad story.   I can’t pick out a beneficiary for today’s “need a proofreader” award, since they byline the article as “Seattle Times Staff”.  Hiding?  Or just not worth taking credit for?
